One million works of art. One million! Including the enormous The Night Watch, one of the most famous paintings in history, and works of renowned Dutch painters like Frans Hals and Johannes Vermeer. Of this vast collection, nearly 10.000 items are on display at one time. Where? At The Rijksmuseum of course!
The Rijksmuseum is located at the Museumplein (‘museum square’) in the city center. The Rijksmuseum has been beautifully remodeled recently. The restauration works have lasted over two years, but the end result is stunning. The Museum is 12.000 square feet and attracts over 2 million visitors each year
The Rijksmuseum is the country’s national museum. It is over 125 years old and features work of all famous Dutch painters. All? Well, except Vincent Van Gogh, but he has his own museum right next door. With the addition of the Stedelijk Museum, which is dedicated to the history of Amsterdam, the Museumplein is a place where you can easily spend an entire day.
